Rising costs force flower show pruning

Escalating costs have forced volunteers to scale down the annual summer flower show in Congresbury, Somerset. Concerns had been mounting about the costs of the June show after last year's marquee hire cost the voluntary organisation £1,700, which made a dent in Congresbury Horticultural Society's funds. Over the past few years the cost has been subsidised by members holding coffee mornings. Now organisers have agreed to hire a smaller marquee and run the event as part of the village fete on June 30.
