10 things to do in Bristol this week – January 14-18

1. The Rocky Horror Show is back at the The Hippodrome from Monday to Saturday. 2. Boyzone star Ronan Keating is playing at Colston Hall on Wednesday and Thursday this week – tickets �33.50. 3. Watch Passenger - aka singer-songwriter Mike Rosenberg - play at Thekla on Tuesday night. 4. There will be a described tour for visually impaired visitors highlighting a selection of this year's winning photographs at the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery. At M shed on Thursday there will be a seminar entitled Jane Austen's topographies: writing the South West. West Country locations feature in several of Austen's novels, most notably Northanger Abbey, Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion. After briefly tracing the literary references to places throughout the South West in these texts, this paper will examine the representation of Bristol in the Juvenilia 'Lesley Castle' and the well-known novels Northanger Abbey and Emma. The free event starts at 7.30pm. 6. Head to the Bristol Old Vic on Monday night to see the latest "Blahblahblah" event with poets Rhian Edwards and Elvis McGonagall. 8pm-late, �6. 7. Listen to a free public talk at The Watershed on Friday at 6.30pm – entitled "Why do you treat me this way?" Consultant psychotherapist Christopher Scanlon will discuss what constitutes 'self-harm' and how this terminology is related to underlying and problematic assumptions of 'normal behaviour' in modern society. He will explore psychosocial and clinical perspectives on self-harm and other forms of 'reflexive violence'. 8. Pub of the week to try: The Fox 9.
