Police have issued a photograph of Bristol nurse Jacintha Saldanha who is believed to have taken her life after being duped by hoaxers targeting the Duchess of Cambridge.
The nurse, who lived in Southmead with her family, had been working at the London hospital where the duchess was being treated for pregnancy-related condition earlier this week.
The 46, was found dead this morning at a nurses' accommodation building in central London.
Ms Saldanha had been working at King Edward VII hospital when a prank call from an Australian radio station was made. She put through the call from the two DJs who were pretending to be the Queen and Prince Charles. Another nurse on the ward then gave the DJs an update on the Duchess' condition.
Ms Saldanha lived in Greystoke Avenue, Southmead, with her family. She is believed to have stayed in London while working before returning to Bristol when she had time off. Ms Saldanha used to work as a nurse for North Bristol NHS Trust, which runs nearby Southmead Hospital.
A spokesman for the trust said: "Jacintha worked at North Bristol NHS Trust for a number of years dating back to 2003. We are shocked and saddened by this news and offer our sincere condolences."
Her family were too upset to talk about her death last night but released a statement via police, which said: "We as a family are deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved Jacintha."
Police officers were on duty outside the family home last night, as people who knew the family arrived to offer them support.
Ms Saldanha was taught to drive by Jeff Sellick at Chequers Driving School, until she passed her test in May last year.
He said: "She was a really nice person, always punctual and always organised.
"It was just a complete shock when I found out what had happened. I just feel really sorry for the family. It is just so unnecessary."
The Metropolitan Police said Ms Saldanha's death was currently being treated as "unexplained" but not suspicious.
A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.
